Sport
St Andrew’s College has a long, proud history of sporting engagement. This goes beyond our campaigns in the competitive intercollegiate Rawson and Rosebowl Cups to include offerings in social sports, access to high-quality gym equipment, and a program supporting our elite student-athletes.
Intercollegiate Sporting Competition
Led by representatives of the Student’s Club, St Andrew’s is one of six Colleges that competes in the Rawson Cup (men) and Rosebowl Cup (women) Intercollegiate Sporting Competition. The competition covers eight sports for both men and women (four per semester). The Student Life Department provides ongoing support to students in their campaigns through access to coaches as well as high-quality training facilities and equipment.
Social Sport
Students who wish to play in sports not included within the Intercollegiate Competition, or prefer a less competitive style of sport have the option of participating in one of the many social sports on offer. This is often in the form of an ad hoc game of social touch before dinner, ultimate frisbee on the oval, a hit of tennis, or a light-hearted game of basketball on our courts. However, the Student’s Club Social Sport secretaries also aim to run several coordinated tournaments or one-off games including NRL, AFL, and Rugby 7s.
Elite Athlete Support
Our Elite Student Athletes have one common goal, regardless of their chosen sport; to perform at their best whilst balancing university, and social life. Most of our athletes’ development is looked after by their club and coaches, however, the College offers additional support through nutritious meals that align with training needs, high-quality equipment in our gym, relevant workshops (ie: building mental resilience as an athlete) and providing opportunities for them to meet and connect with fellow elite athletes.
The Taylor Gym
Students at St Andrew’s have access to the College’s high quality, modern gym. The recently renovated (2020) Taylor Gym provides both elite and amateur athletes with quality equipment and weights as well as an additional studio for pilates, yoga, and small group fitness classes.
