Sai Abbaraju (fr 2019) was elected to be Social Representative in the House Committee for 2021.
Here, he shares some thoughts about the year ahead:
Your degree and university: The University of Sydney, Bachelor of Economics (Honours)
What you are most looking forward to in 2021 at College: 2021 is shaping up to potentially be a huge year at Drew’s. With the country slowly opening up and recovering from the pandemic, so too can we hope for collegiate life to return to normal in the course of time. I’m looking forward to the re-establishment of many of the traditions and events that makes College so special. I’m also looking forward to welcoming the new cohort of freshers at Welcome Week and acquainting them with the Andrew’s experience.
What you hope to achieve in your House Committee role next year: The social climate at Drew’s is without equal amongst the University Colleges. My primary task for 2021 will be to cultivate and maintain the vibrant social calendar and to reintroduce those events which were sadly discontinued because of the pandemic. In addition to this, I’m excited by the possibility of establishing new events which cater to the diverse range of interests that the people of Drew’s have. I am a strong advocate for inclusivity and social cohesion within the College, and hope that our social program next year is able to promote these values.
Advice for 2021 freshers: Time flies when you’re at College, so seize the day! It feels like only a short while ago that I first came here as a fresher, and now I’m already going into my third year. There’s so much you can contribute and so many experiences available to you at Drew’s, and you should strive to squeeze everything out of the limited time you have here. Join a subcommittee, play a sport, or contribute to the social fabric of College. The friends and memories you make here will last a lifetime, so cherish every moment!
