Laura Grant (Fr 2019)

What are you studying, and at which university?

Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Business, University of Technology Sydney

Where are you from?

Perth, WA however, my family recently moved to Victoria.

What made you choose St Andrew’s College? Do you have any previous connections to the College?

I chose St Andrew’s College as I am from Perth and had a desire to do my current course at UTS. Moving interstate for study at a young age is a big adjustment to make which is why I chose a collegiate experience to give me countless opportunities to make connections to people in Sydney. Drew’s in particular stood out to me for its close community and range of experiences that offer something for everyone’s interests and hobbies.

What have been the highlights of your time at College so far?

Over my time at College I have done my best to be involved in as many areas as possible. One of my most memorable experiences which I would definitely say is a highlight is being a part of the St Andrew’s Sony Camp in 2019. It was an invaluable week that will stay with me for a long time. St Andrew’s never fails to host incredible social events, from highland ball to mother’s and father’s day dinners which are always highlights in the year. Over my three years at Drew’s I have had such a fun time and learnt so much from the people around me and opportunities offered. Overall, my time at Drew’s has been one big highlight in my life.

What does being a SACAS Scholarship recipient mean to you? And how will this scholarship help you this year?

I am extremely grateful for this scholarship as it enables me to stay in the Drew’s community for a third year to continue making such strong friendships and enhancing my university experience. The endless support from the Drew’s community, whether academic, pastoral care or professional development helps me continue to grow and thrive in my studies. Being a SACAS Scholarship recipient is extremely humbling and I am very grateful to be recognised for my dedication to my studies and contribution within the St Andrew’s community. I look forward to being a part of the Drew’s community for a long time, even once I move out. I will always look back with fond memories and hope to remain involved in the amazing community created here.
