Harry Best (fr 2019) was elected to be Honorary Treasurer in the House Committee for 2021.
Here, he shares some thoughts about the year ahead:
Degree and university: Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Advanced Studies at University of Sydney
What you are most looking forward to in 2021 at College: Hopefully, a much more stable year where College culture will be able to thrive and continued success can be achieved. 2020 has been a difficult year, however it is a testament to this College how we have managed to overcome such challenges and have continued to thrive as a community. I am excited to see how we can take what we have learnt this year, and translate that into success and strength as a collective.
What you hope to achieve in your House Committee role: As Treasurer, I hope to fairly allocate funds accordingly to the particular needs of College groups. I aim to support Palladian groups, Rosebowl and Rawson teams, as well as social event secretaries in their endeavours, giving them the best possible chance for success.
Advice for 2021 freshers: Cherish your years at College as they will be the best years of your life. The people you meet during Welcome Week will become like your brothers and sisters, respect and be kind to everyone as you will receive such respect in return. In my short 21 year life, I have never experienced a place where such close mateship can be so easily formed, excellence can be achieved and opportunities can arise. I like to think coming to Drew’s is like winning the lottery, don’t throw it all away, use it to grow yourself.
