Drew Sellers, Rawson Representative 2022

“Drew’s has helped me towards my goal by constantly providing me with so much support and guidance in everything, from sports to academics.”

Meet Drew Sellers (Fr 2019), the new Rawson Representative of the 2022 House Committee. Born and raised in Newcastle, Drew attended St Joseph’s College Hunters Hill [Joey’s], and found a home in Sydney at St Andrew’s College. He currently studies a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at UTS.

What are you most looking forward to in 2022 at College?

The thing I am most looking forward to in 2022 at College is just making memories with my best mates that will stick with me forever. With this being my final year of College, I don’t want to look back and think “what if?”

The opportunity to live in an environment such as Drew’s where, day-in, day-out you are surrounded by your closest mates, is very special and something that only comes around a handful of times in your life. Hence, I can’t wait to dive into and make the most of events and things such as W-Week, a Rawson Rugby campaign, formal and more.

What do you hope to achieve in your new role?

One of my main goals is to retain the Rawson Cup in 2022. However, another one of my aims is to encourage people to strive to their goals both on and off the field. There are a lot of very talented people at Drew’s, and I believe I have a great opportunity to help contribute to their development and knowledge. This year I want to bring in several guest speakers in on a number of topics including psychologists, nutritionists, and past successful alumni. Lastly, another goal of mine is to making sport within Drew’s more accessible and inclusive, creating a culture where trialling and giving every sport a go is perfectly normal and encouraged.

Do you think the celebration of 20 Years of Undergraduate Women at St Andrew’s will affect your leadership?

I think this year is a very exciting one and definitely one to be celebrated. All of the Rawson Cup uniforms this year will feature the 20 Years of Undergraduate Women logo, to display the importance of this to every single individual in the College. Additionally, as Rawson Secretary, I see this as a fantastic chance to ensure all Rosebowl sports are always well supported and given the best chance to retain the Rosebowl Cup in such a significant year for the College.

What made you choose St Andrew’s?

The main reason I chose to attend Drew’s was because I was lucky enough to stumble across the St. Andrew’s tent at the Joey’s university expo night. Being from Newcastle and obviously needing a place to live while studying in Sydney, the idea of going to a College came to mind. After chatting to the two Drew’s representatives and doing a lot of research, Drew’s presented a community and environment I wanted to be a part of: one that looked so welcoming and enjoyable, and a place that allowed me to develop in all aspects of life.

What other extra-curricular activities have you taken part in at College?

Whilst being at Drew’s I have tried my best to throw myself in to anything and everything. Some of the extra-curricular activities I have been involved in include Rawson Cricket, Rugby, and Soccer.

How has St Andrew’s helped you toward achieving your goals?

Drew’s has helped me towards my goal by constantly providing me with so much support and guidance in everything, from sports to academics. There are so many fantastic people and resources which can be utilised to help contribute towards your goals including tutors, coaches and mentors. Additionally, Drew’s has some of the most amazing facilities to help with your development from a great gym to some incredible study areas.

What’s the best thing about College?

The best thing about College is the friendships and memories you make. There is nothing more special and enjoyable than celebrating your successes and the ones of the people around you, especially when it’s with the people you are closest to and spend every day with.

Do you have advice for 2022 freshers?

My advice for the Freshers of 2022 would be, as basic as it sounds, just throw yourself into everything. There are so many amazing things that Drew’s has to offer so don’t be afraid to stick your hand up and just have a crack (e.g. big dance)!
