Cara Skirrow (fr 2019) was elected to be Honorary Secretary in the House Committee for 2021.
Here, she shares some thoughts about the year ahead:
Your degree and university: Bachelor of Science (majoring in Psychology and Biology)
What you are most looking forward to in 2021 at College:
I am most looking forward to working within many areas of College next year with different secretaries and subcommittees, staff, House Committee and the Student Executive. Through this I believe I can make a meaningful impact in College for everyone to be included, and make the most out of their experience here, whether they are a fresher, sophomore or heavy. Lastly, I am excited to support St Andrew’s students in their triumphs through sporting, cultural and academic endeavours and bring home another 4 Cups in 2021.
What you hope to achieve in your House Committee role next year:
I have no doubt that we will achieve our goals to a high standard. We hope to execute a successful Welcome Week, ensuring freshers feel a comfortable transition into College life, and continuing this support throughout the year. Through my role as Hon Secretary and as a member of the Student Exec, I aim to lead the House Committee to work as a strong governing body guiding College through any tribulations and to organise another successful year through events, competitions and general College life.
Advice for 2021 freshers:
To the 2021 fresher cohort, the most important piece of advice I could give is to grasp the different array opportunities in front of you. At St Andrew’s you will be offered opportunities you may never get to be a part of again in a place with resounding culture and support. Your favourite memories will be of the experiences where you have decided to step outside the box and try something new and I highly encourage you to do so.
