“To the students of [Principal] Harper’s day, the term ‘men departed’ had a more poignant meaning. In the First World War twenty-one past and present students of the College lost their lives, five at Gallipoli, thirteen in France and three elsewhere. When the armistice was declared in November 1918, Principal Harper gathered the students in their Common Room (the present Reading Room) after dinner and said that: … words failed to express our sense of thankfulness for what had been achieved.”
The Andrew’s Book, Fourth Edition by R. Ian Jack, 2013, pp40-41
St Andrew’s College remembered the Androvians who served, and the Androvians who gave their lives in service for Australia at our annual ANZAC Day Chapel service.
In his address, the Principal, Wayne Erickson, spoke about the contribution of an Androvian who gave much in service to a nation in war, and who was a member of a family whose generations have given, and continue to give, so generously to St Andrew’s and the broader community.
